1. Install a hardware Firewall. Most businesses have multiple users sharing the same Internet connection, and this is handled normally by the use of a router. Most routers have some sort of hardware firewall system built in. “The device does a decent job of keeping some determined individuals out of your computer. Software firewalls are good too, but once infected they can be easily manipulated and bypassed,” says Jason Hummel of ArTech PC in Rogers.
2. Use Pop up blockers. Deflecting the medium for malware can start here.
3. Stay current with Anti-virus protection. You may be tempted by free software, but be sure to read the license agreements first, Hummel warns. Some free versions are not permitted for company use, and license agreements can be fairly inexpensive.
4. Keep your system updated. Not mater what OS you use, keep it patched. Make sure you run all critical software updates as they are released.
